On Thursday 25 and Friday 26 August 2022, Buenos Aires was the meeting point for the world’s leading specialists in service-learning. It was a face-to-face event (with streaming conferences and plenary sessions) organised by CLAYSS.

More than 500 people from more than 30 countries around the world gathered in the John Paul II auditorium of the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina to attend this 25th edition of the International Seminar. At the same time, around 600 people joined online, participating from different cities over the five continents.

The objectives of the 25th Seminar were:

  • To offer a space for training and updating in the pedagogy of service-learning for faculty, leaders and students of all educational levels, as well as for members of community and civil society organizations;
  • Promote the international exchange of ideas and experiences among educational institutions, colleges, and social organizations that develop solidarity projects, particularly in the context generated by the COVID-19 pandemic;
  • Expand the spaces for articulation between civil society organizations and the formal education system for the benefit of educational equity and quality;
  • Celebrate the continuity of the Seminars as an expression of an innovative pedagogical movement that continues to grow from the creativity of educators and students.

Panel “Hybrid and virtual solidarity service-learning during and after the pandemic”

Irene Culcasi (LUMSA University, Italy), member of the SLIDE consortium, presented during the Panel Hybrid and virtual solidarity service-learning during and after the pandemic”, which was held on 26 August.

She presented the implications of service-learning’s migration to virtually and the new challenges in terms of the relationship with the community. A categorization of possible technological integrations in e-service-learning was presented, related to the students’ soft skills. The European SLIDE project was highlighted as one of the current lines of work on e-service-learning in Europe, with a specific focus on inclusion and digital empowerment.
